Karadeniz Holding Set to Send Lifeship Floating Villages as an humanitarian Aid to Türkiye’s Earthquake Zone

  • Lifeships can provide emergency accommodation for more than 3,000 people
  • Vessels include living spaces, catering, health, social and education facilities

Karadeniz Holding, the owner and the operator of the world’s largest fleet of floating power plants, is in talks to provide humanitarian aid to victims of the devastating earthquake that struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria a few days ago.

The company’s fleet of emergency aid vessels, known as Lifeships, can provide assistance during natural disasters to more than 3,000 people. They can be deployed immediately, are self-sufficient and, crucially, don’t need to connect to any onshore infrastructure.

“Lifeships are self-sufficient vessels that can provide accommodation, emergency relief and are resistant to all weather conditions and natural disasters,” Karadeniz Holding mentioned in the release that was share with the press. “We have focused all our resources and energy on this project to aid people affected by the earthquake. Our aim is to provide a safe haven for those who have experienced destruction on a devastating scale.”

Karadeniz Holding is an experienced operator in floating infrastructure, with its fleet of 36 floating power plants, known as Powerships, which provide flexible energy solutions all over the world.

The company is ready to dispatch the Lifeship Süheyla Sultan and Lifeship Rauf Bey vessels to Hatay province in southern Türkiye once the necessary procedures have been completed. The ships, which include galleys and dining halls, health, social and education facilities, and childcare centres act as floating villages, providing living spaces for as many as 1,500 people, with a total capacity of more than 3,000.

The Lifeship Rauf Bey is a catamaran ferry, measuring 127 meters in length 40 meters in width. The Lifeship Süheyla Sultan, is 92 meters long and 27 meters wide. The vessels can provide short-term, emergency living space in as little as 15 days.

Additionally, the ro-ro ship – a type of vessel used to carry wheeled cargo – KPS Emre Bey has also been assigned to provide logistical support between Istanbul and Iskenderun under the coordination of Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
